Before the cross became the symbol of Christianity, it was used to mark graves. It is interesting that the cross of torture, suffering, and shame became a symbol of hope and faith and honor.
The cross of death is the symbol of eternal life. The vertical beam points to Heaven, to a Holy God. The horizontal beam points outward with no end to God’s love. The cross of Christ is the intersection of a point in time that reaches to eternity. The cross is where God elevated our standing without lowering His standard. God put our sin on His Son and punished Jesus in our place. Christ, who did no wrong, was made wrong so we could be made right (2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 5:8).
Would you offer the life of your son for someone else? No, you wouldn’t. Nor would I. The list of those who would offer up their child is nameless. But willingly God gave His Son for you and me – the worthy for the unworthy. Our list of no names became God’s list of almost endless names, ones who would be reconciled to God by Christ’s cross. Christ died loving us.
One more thought or two…
We may die for our children, even our country, but would our children die for us? Would any of us die for God?
God’s going forth is from the ends of unending heavens. God’s circuit is everywhere. God’s mindset is perfect and full and we are privileged to open His mind-book and see Him.
The Lord lights our candle, and the winds of change have no effect. The Lord enlightens the darkness so we can see Him. God is a buckler. The Lord my stalwart. The Lord my God is our God.

The Lord has many times delivered me from my adversaries. The Lord lifted me above those that rose up against me. The Lord delivered me from violent men.
