Godliness means we are imitators of Christ, and God produces the “Fruit of the Holy Spirit” in us and through us. We call this being in “fellowship” as in dining with the Lord as we would dine with family or friends; we sit at the table and eat and fellowship with one another (Reference Revelation 3:20). “Behold I stand at the door (your soul-door) and knock, if any man open I will come in and dine with him.” (This verse addresses believers, so we may return to fellowship with the Lord if we have strayed. It is absolutely not telling unbelievers to “invite Jesus into their hearts” to be saved.)
Godliness means we are occupied with Christ because God is in control of our thinking and actions. In other words we are filled with the Spirit (reference the definition for “Filling Of The Spirit“).
It is God who produces godliness in us. Godliness is not something man can ever achieve. God performs godliness in the believer who stays in fellowship long enough for God to do so. Mature believers log a maximum amount of time being filled with the spirit, which is godliness.
