Bible Study

“It Is Written!”

“The foundation for knowledge is the Bible.” – C. S. Craig

When Christ began His earthly ministry, He overcame the temptations of the devil with a threefold statement: “It is written.” Then, on the cross, He defeated the devil with our salvation by stating that It is finished.

These two declarations of Christ still echo through history and the minds of men to this very day. When Christ rose from the dead, He appealed to the Word of God as having foretold all that happened to Him, and showed that the ignorance of men is due to their failure to search the Scriptures.

We must pause right here for a moment and ask ourselves, “Do we have the same attitude and exercise of Scripture that our Lord Himself had?”

Christ as the Living Word, and the Bible as the written Word, are one and the same! Therefore, how you feel about Bible study is how you feel about Christ. Whenever Jesus said “It is written,” He was talking about the Bible, Himself, His Word. He literally spoke of Himself as the inspiration of all Scripture. The Bible is the work of the Trinity inspiring the writers. The Bible is the “Mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). How well do you really know Christ? (2 Timothy 3:16)

Humanity has a sin issue. The sin issues of humanity have been resolved. Scripture reveals the resolution.

God’s Word is absolute. Do not take it for granted. Do not take Christ for granted. Donald Grey Barnhouse accurately stated that, “The judgment of the Christian is directly related to the authority of the Scriptures, the supreme court from which there is no appeal.”

In closing, think on these things. Rethink your devotion to God’s Word, but especially God’s Son who died for you. Please read, memorize, and meditate on these three Scripture references: 2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12.

Then look up all the verses where our Lord stated “It Is Written.” You will find it most edifying.

Happy Studying in Fields of Grace.
