Apostasy/Apostate

Apostasy/Apostate

Apostasy or apostate is when one is in a state of apostasy or considered apostate, both terms refer to those who have fallen away from the consistent, daily intake of God’s Word—a legalistic degeneracy of pride, self righteousness, and ego arrogance, which replaces the cross, the Word of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit—a house of cards.

Apostasy has always been a characteristic of the church because of inadequate and sub-standard teaching of the Word.

When pastors fail to follow the Pre-designed Plan of God (which is intense disciplined study under the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit), the congregation literally starves to spiritual death (Revelation 3:15-18).

The primary reasons for apostasy are five-fold:

  1. Failure of pastor/teachers to apply I.C.E. principles (see also “expository teaching”);
  2. Ego/arrogance;
  3. Laziness;
  4. Failure of seminaries to teach I.C.E. principles to pastoral students due to apostasy at the seminary level. Today many teachers and professors are not born-again believers, neither are many of the clergy for that matter.
  5. Satan has a way of creeping in, subtly, to attack the plan of God and His Word, at the university level, which dramatically effects our local churches and the body of Christ.

Jesus Christ controls history. He has a perfect plan for His chosen people. No matter how apostate the church becomes, God always calls His gifted leaders to step-up in every generation.

If your pastor is not teaching Biblical principles that lead believers toward spiritual maturity in Christ, then it may be time to seek a pastor—or a church—that does. The role of Biblical teaching is not merely to inform, but to lead the congregation toward spiritual growth, stability, discernment, and maturity in Christ.

Point of doctrine: Spiritual maturity is not optional; it is a direct mandate from God to every believer. Whether pastor or member of the congregation, this mandate should never be ignored or treated lightly.
