Turn On the Light
Moral laws demand respect just as the cross demands faith. Moral laws save society from self destruction. The cross work of Christ saves each believer from God’s wrath.
When Christ told his disciples, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32), John refers to our intellectual pursuit of truth in Scripture. John refers us to the application of these truths to every circumstance of life as well. The transforming of our thinking from human viewpoint to divine viewpoint is based on the truths of God’s Word. God’s Word is fulfilling. When the believer therefore does not consistently inhale doctrine, the assurances we all need from Scripture are soon forgotten. The consistent application of naming our sins (1 John 1:9) is a constant decision-making process that must be utilized as needed when we knowingly sin against the Lord.
If we do not stay in fellowship with God, if we do not stay daily in God’s word, we will fail in our struggles with the world, the flesh, and the devil. If daily we do not stay connected to God, we will turn to the world, personal success, status, peer pressure, wealth, approval, addictions, keeping up with the latest hairstyle and fashion requirements for social acceptance, and so on. Worldly approval and acceptance become addictive, leading us to dependency on the world rather than dependency on the Word.
Living up to the world’s standards can be a nightmare. We can’t win the rat race by running faster, harder, longer, or in the wrong direction. Learn God’s truths, apply God’s truths. When we comply with God’s truths we are stimulated by our successes and convicted by our failures. This is the battle—gratification and guilt. These are the struggles we all face—the powers of our faith vs. the influence of the world with all its counterfeits. The allures of the world will overwhelm us apart from consistently maintaining intimacy with the Lord through Scripture.
Living in Christ, in His Word, in his love, in his assurance, is gratifying and reassuring. It is genuine and real. It is living in truth, with truth—truth is a witness in us, never against us.
Bible doctrine is imperative to our transformation from the temporary world to eternal life in Christ. Bible doctrine conforms our thinking to divine viewpoint. With God’s light on life, we are able to see the darkness in our nature and the foolishness of the world.
Turn on the light in your life. Christ is the light of life that shines in darkness. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved,” Acts 16:31.
