Essence of God and Bible Doctrine

A daily study of God’s Word is imperative. It is commanded in Scripture.

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

“Our inner man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).

“Be renewed in the spirit of your mind” (Ephesians 4:3).

“Man shall not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

“Study to show yourself approved unto God, a believer that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

The believer’s spiritual nourishment is Bible doctrine and therefore God’s Word should be taught on a consistent basis. For an example of in-depth Bible teaching, lets look at Who and What God is.

THE ESSENCE OF GOD

The integrity of God is God’s essence or His absoluteness – His holiness. Let’s look closer (it is helpful if you look up the verses for yourself, and listen to the Holy Spirit as we do so).

  • God is Sovereign, which means God has supreme will. As sovereignty, God is the Supreme Being of the universe (Deuteronomy 4:39; 1 Samuel 2:6-8; Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 45:5,6; Acts 17:24).
  • God is Righteous or Holy (1 Samuel 2:2; cf. Leviticus 19:2b; Psalm 22:3 47:8; 111:9 John 17:11; Revelation 3:7; 6:10).
  • God is Justice. God’s holiness includes His justice and His righteousness (Job 37:23; Psalm 19:9; 50:6; 58:11; 89:14; Isaiah 45:21; Jeremiah 50:7; Romans 3:26 Hebrews 10:30,31; 12:23). The justice of God is a function of His integrity. Justice guards the essence of God.
  • God is Love (John 3:15-18; Romans 5:8). His love is infinite and eternal. It is unchangeable (Jeremiah 31:3). God’s love is expressed to mankind through His grace (Ephesians 2:8,9; 5:25-27; 1 John 4:8-10).
  • God is Eternal Life (Exodus 3:14; Psalm 90:2; cf. Genesis 1:1a; Deuteronomy 32:40; Job 36:26; Psalm 9:7; 102:27; 135:13; Isaiah 43:13a).
  • God is Omniscient – “all knowing” (Job 37:16; cf. Job 26:6; 31:4; 34:4; Psalm 139:1-6,12; Jeremiah 16:17; Ezekiel 11:5; Matthew 10:29,30; Hebrew 4:13).
  • God is Omnipotent – “all-powerful” (Psalm 147:5; cf. Genesis 17:1; 18:14; Psalm 24:8; 93:1; Isaiah 40:26; 50:2; Jeremiah 27:5; 32:19; Matthew 19:26).
  • God is Omnipresent – “God is everywhere, ever present” (Jeremiah 23:24; John 14:23).
  • God is Immutable – “God is absolute stability, unchanging” (Psalm 102:26,27; Malachi 3:6; Hebrew 1:12).
  • God is Veracity – “absolute truth” (Psalm 25:10; 86:15; Revelation 15:3).
These characteristics of God help us understand who and what God is. God’s very being is His essence. Think on these things as you walk your pathway through fields of grace

Happy Studying in Fields of Grace.
