Evil is a mighty hunter,
leading violent men.
_______
Set a watchman before my mouth,
keep the door of my lips closed.
The heart of man is deceitfully wicked,
to practice vileness and iniquity.
The world is calamities;
men’s bones fill the mouth of Sheol,
Hell is never full.
The souls of men are destitute,
they fall into their own nets.
They are smitten below the ground,
their dwelling place is darkness above and below.
Darkness is before them and after,
in the pit of destruction do souls cry,
they cry day and night, and there is no day.
_______
Set a watchman before my thoughts,
hold open the door of pure reason
that I may enter, then close it behind me.
What is mankind that You are mindful?
His ways and his days are shadows passing away.
While I have breath, may I praise thee.
Praise the God of glory, and let forever come.
Amen.
_______
And the Lord replied, “I call but men do not answer;
I speak and men do not hear.
I shall make all things new
and the former shall not be remembered,
nor come again into mind. I am that I am.”
Seek ye out the Book of the Lord, and read,
for His mouth has spoken it; His Spirit has gathered the words.
“My people,” says the Lord, “will possess my Word forever;
from generation to generation, they shall dwell therein.”
